The reason I love the Huna as a teaching is that it must be felt, and to be feeling something you have to have integrated the understanding, so it isn’t just a flimsy idea that will be forgotten in 5 minutes, but an integrated principle to live your life by. When individuals try to translate the Huna they hit a language barrier, in a similar way that I cannot describe music to you.
So I will begin to explain what I feel the Huna is:
Ike - the world is what you think it is – your world is a reflection of your beliefs – in a similar way that in past they believed the world was flat – at that time to all concerned the world was flat. So as we change our perception our world changes too, I can remember an ahh haa moment as I walked through my local shopping centre one day, listening to Michael Jackson “man in the mirror” “if you want to make the world a better place, then take a look at yourself and make that change!” Can you seriously imagine standing looking at your own reflection in the mirror and telling it that you will smile when it does!
So your world is what you think it is : imagine this – your life is your movie and you are the writer of the script, the director or the play and the star of the show.
How does that work you may ask: Everything that exists in your awareness is a reflection (like the mirror) of YOU and your beliefs, so what did you day dream about today? Do you like the person you are in your empty moments, or do you self criticise. (remember where your energy goes grows) so if you are feeling lack of confidence in self when baking a cake – then the cake will not taste good. However if you go into making the cake with the idea of (this is fun) and just enjoy the process rather than worrying about how it will turn out, then the experience will be a joyful one, every if it comes out all flat and burnt – then you will merely laugh at the outcome and put it down to experience.
If you think about the point of view of a zealot (a person that is fanatically committed to a cause) This person wishes the world to change from outside because they believe that the world is not what it should be.
But the shamanistic approach understands the individuality of all possibilities that exist and that healing comes from within, so if you change the core way you see the world then the world outside of you will change.
I will try and explain a personal experience where this has occurred for me, at one time I did not have a very high opinion of the police Force, I found that all of the experiences I had with them had been negative, for instance I was the one who would get pulled over for speeding, allowing 70 other speeding cars to go past whilst they wrote my ticket. A friend and I had a discussion about this (more like a heated argument) where my friend told me my perception was incorrect and that the police force do a great deal of good, it was just that I wasn’t looking for it.
I lived in a small town, so spent the next few weeks looking out for police locally, amazingly I saw them in a whole new light, so them helping old ladies across the road, speaking to unruly youths with care and attention and performing various other acts of kindness and helpfulness.
This happened to me a good 6 or so years ago, and I have not had a bad experience with them since. No fines, no altercations No THING.
So my experience was when I changed my perception my outside world reflected that change.
